Fannie Griffin-McClendon,
a 104-year-old U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Veteran and last living member of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion, was honored with a plaque dedication by the Phoenix Veterans Affairs, Aug. 21, 2025.
Born in Louisiana in 1920, she's one of the most inspirational trailblazers that began her military career with the Woman's Army Corps during WWII, where she served in the 6888. Following the war, she was recruited to the Air Force as a commissioned officer and retired at the rank of Major.
Her plaque will be located at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
